As far back as I can remember I have been a stutterer. As far as fluency goes...I've had good days and bad days, good months and bad months, even good years and bad years. But even in my most fluent periods, I still stuttered whenever I tried to tell a joke, give my opinion and when I found myself in a stressful situation. I am 39 years old and have been through more speech therapists over the last thirty years than I can remember. I've learned new ways of speaking, news ways of breathing, and relaxation and meditation techniques. Nothing had any lasting impact. Last year I started a business. As anyone knows, starting a business is very stressful. As a result, the stuttering spikes--breathless, red-in-the-face and paralyzing--were exhausting; not to mention humiliating and bad for business.
